CID , West Bengal helps you in doing exactly that . You can now, check for vehicle number/ chassis number/engine number of vehicle you intend to purchase against an All India database of stolen vehicles. This Data base is made available to you courtesy NCRB , Delhi . Data base is updated regularly and has data of stolen vehicles since 1995. (Please read the disclaimer link given below also.).
